How do you know if you have gut issues?
The symptoms can be bloating, food sensitivities, and feeling tired and weak.
The more you know about your personal food sensitivities the better we can tailor a diet for you.
If you are in a position to get some gut health tests prior to arrival, this will really help us serve you better.
We recommend you see a functional medicine doctor/ integrative medicine doctor, or naturopath. Explain to her or him you would like to do some gut health testing such as: an allergy test, an Indican test, or comprehensive stool test. The results of these tests will enable your doctor to put you onto a path of gut healing. It will also help us to know how to cook for you.
If you are not able to do any tests, you may find this quiz useful.
Additionally, when you arrive at Phuket Cleanse, our local lab is able to provide you a basic Indican test to help you determine if you have a bacterial overgrowth or infection in the gut.
If you would like to do any such testing at Phuket Cleanse, you can contact our local hotshot clinical nutritionist Craig Burton. You can tell him what is going on and he can make some recommendations for you.
If you would like to set that up or have any questions regarding blood tests, please email Craig at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have no information to provide us on the status of your digestive system, we would simply put you on what is called a Low Fodmap Diet. I suggest you get started with that as early as possible, as it will give you relief and get you used to the type of diet you will do with us as a gut healing program.
We will help you to continue this diet at Phuket Cleanse, and will recommend you reduce the times you eat in the day to give your gut a break and allow it to heal.
We can accomplish this in several ways.
- Low Fodmap juice/soup cleanse
- Partial Low Fodmap juice/soup cleanse (meaning liquid diet most of the day with one Low Fodmap meal)
- Intermittent fasting with Low Fodmap meals
In terms of supplementation for healing your gut, we recommend you use a gut repair product such as this one. This product will begin to heal and soothe the gut lining.
We suggest a collagen loading program to rebuild the gut lining. Please watch this video to learn about the benefits of collagen loading.
Products that we advocate, by the same Josh Axe, include these multi-collagen capsules and this bone broth protein.
If you are a vegetarian or vegan, here is a viable plant-based collagen product by Sunwarrior.
Thailand does not have many high-quality bone broth or collagen products. It is better to prepare in advance if you feel you need supplementation on this front.
The type of collagen product you choose is important. The video, below, explains why to choose multi-type collagen.
