Mindfulness meditation has been shown to enhance well-being, improve mood, calm anxiety, moderate eating disorders and assist with substance abuse. Research has also demonstrated improved health and longevity. A regular practice can relieve stress, lower blood pressure, alleviate gastrointestinal troubles, decrease chronic pain. 

So why isn’t everyone doing it?

One attempt, and it’s easy to decide that you “can’t do it,” or that you “can’t focus” or that your mind, “just doesn’t work that way.” Nothing could be further from the truth. What you need is a teacher – a guide through the issues that come up as you try to dive into a practice.

Dr. Lyssa Menard

Professor of Behavioral Science

Dr. Lyssa Menard is an Assistant Professor of Behavioral Science at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, a clinical health psychologist, and a business coach as well as a meditation teacher.

She was certified by Jon Kabat-Zinn in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), which combines mindfulness, meditation, and yoga; she is a teacher with the Veterans Yoga Project; and she is currently completing her Vipassana teacher training with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.

Lyssa is the founder of Strategies for Change, where she incorporates meditation techniques in psychotherapy and business coaching. With well over 20 years of experience, she is dedicated to working with high achievers who feel successful in some aspects of their lives but stuck in others.

Known for her expertise in business and personal change management, she has been invited to address the American Psychological Association and companies throughout the US. Lyssa has been quoted in the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, Prevention Magazine, WebMD, CareerBuilder, and many other prominent publications. She has appeared on CNN, NBC News, and ABC News.

When Lyssa is not working, she enjoys biking, swimming, kickboxing, and other athletic endeavors, writes and performs music, worships the sun, reads everything that isn’t nailed down, travels worldwide and connects with friends and family.
